Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers to common questions families have about bedwetting alarms, training and DRI Sleeper products.
Every child is different. These answers provide general product and training guidance, and you are always welcome to contact us if you need help choosing or using an alarm.
How successful are DRI Sleeper alarms?
DRI Sleeper reports a 90% success rate for treating bedwetting based on independently audited annual customer surveys. Consistent use and following the recommended training process are important for the best chance of success.
How long does bedwetting alarm training usually take?
Many children overcome bedwetting within approximately 3 weeks to 3 months when an alarm is used correctly. Training is generally considered successful once a child achieves 14 dry nights in a row.
My child is a very deep sleeper. Will the alarm still help?
Deep sleeping does not itself cause bedwetting, but some children need extra help learning to wake to the alarm. DRI Sleeper alarms are designed to be highly alerting. Parents may initially need to help wake a deep sleeper and reinforce the alarm-response routine.
What is the difference between the Eclipse and Excel alarms?
The Eclipse uses a wireless Urosensor™ and its alarm base can be positioned beside the bed or up to approximately 11 metres away. The Excel is a body-worn alarm with a corded, double-sided Urosensor™ that plugs into the alarm unit.
Are DRI Sleeper alarms electrically safe?
Both models are battery powered and use a very small current. Their safety electronics are designed so that once moisture triggers the alarm, current does not continue to pass through the Urosensor™.
Where should the Urosensor™ be positioned?
The sensor is designed to sit inside the underwear where it can detect the first drops of urine quickly. It can also be positioned using a suitable liner or within absorbent underwear, provided it remains in the correct sensing position.
Can the sensor be used with pull-ups or diapers?
Yes. The DRI Sleeper sensor design can be used with pull-ups or diapers. Correct positioning is important because highly absorbent materials can draw moisture away from the sensor if it shifts out of place.
How do I clean the Urosensor™?
Rinse the Urosensor™ in warm soapy water and dry it thoroughly before reuse. Do not use chlorine-based cleaners and do not place the sensor in a washing machine or tumble dryer, as this can damage the sensing strips.
Will I need to replace the Urosensor™?
The Urosensor™ is a consumable component. The Excel sensor can last for a long period with reasonable care but may eventually need replacement. The sealed wireless Eclipse Urosensor™ contains a long-life internal battery designed to last well beyond a typical treatment period when used and stored correctly.
What happens if my child relapses after becoming dry?
A small number of children may start wetting again after a period of dry nights. In that situation, alarm training can be restarted to reinforce the learned response to a full bladder.
